To this… the first-ever race where NO CARS finished! The F4 race today was delayed as track officials scrambled to rectify the drain cover which caused the Grosjean incident, and apparently teams miscalculated the amount of fuel needed to complete Race 2 of the F4.
“With a reshuffled timetable caused by the broken drain that cut short Formula 1’s second free practice session, two F4 events were run back-to-back on Saturday morning.
While the first event passed without drama, there was disbelief towards the end of the second race when cars began running out of fuel well before the end.” – Motorsport.com.
It is understood the problem with lack of fuel was caused by a miscalculation on how much petrol the cars needed to complete both races, as they were unusually running back to back rather than being standalone events and were refuelled in the gap. (Source: Motorsport.com)
Even Carlos Sainz tweeted this:
I ve just watched the first race of my life where not one single car finished the race. YES!
