Just like that “finger boy” in F1, the Chevrolet Cruze humiliated other competitors by dominating the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) for four consecutive years. With this year’s change in regulations to be based on TC1, British based RML has prepared the Cruze for the 2014 WTCC season. The team also just completed the shakedown for the 2014’s Cruze.
RML has agreed to design and produce six cars to the series’ new TC1 regulations, trialled two Cruzes to provide RML with “much needed mileage and data”. Chevrolet has pulled out as the manufacturer in the WTCC after dominating both drivers and constructor titles in the WTCC for three consecutive years. Last year, Yvan Muller became world champion with the privately entered Cruze, prepared by RML.
Hugo Valente and Tom Chilton became the first two men to place orders for the 2014-spec cars, followed by four more customer cars for teams ROAL, Campos and Munich. “The timeline for this project has been incredibly tight and I was immensely proud of everyone involved when car 001 rolled out this morning,” RML director of motorsport Ron Hartvelt said.
“That this shakedown was successfully completed to the schedule, we predicted back in October is a testament to the talent and dedication of the whole organization. “Of course we would have much preferred a proper test and development program before handing the cars over, but we are confident that the customer teams will do a good job.”
