In February, a large group of taxi operators in Italy protested to get Uber removed or banned from the country. Initially, it worked out well as a lower court did ban Uber. The gutsy tech behemoth from San Francisco didn’t bow down to that and appealed that ruling. Now Reuters have reported that a higher court has overruled the ban and Uber can freely operate in the country.

The tweet above was Uber’s official Twitter account saying that users are able to use their ride-hailing app again in Italy.
All around the world, taxi drivers have been protesting and going on strike where they can to complain that unlike drivers for Uber, taxi drivers constantly have plenty of regulations to follow. The Italian government has responded to say that they are working to get clearer guidelines out for all. Somewhat similar to what we had over here in Malaysia.
For that matter, our government is definitely a couple of steps ahead of the Italian government.
In a comment to Reuters, an Uber spokesperson has this to say. “We are thrilled for the thousands of drivers and riders who can continue using Uber in Italy, however, Italy now needs to reform its outdated laws so that all its citizens and cities can benefit from modern technology.”
