BMW Upgrades the 4 Series Range

Similarly, with the 2 Series upgrades, BMW isn’t done. No, they got loads of numbers to go through and this time we bring you to the number 4. The 4 Series range is getting a facelift and this time it looks similarly to the design aesthetics of the G30 5 Series and the F30 3 Series.

Bla bla bla, yada yada yada, there are design upgrades. Yawn. But something did catch my eye.

BMW says that the 4 Series have had some tweaks to their chassis. The now sport a lower centre of gravity thanks to a wider track, the suspension has been revised and traction control has also been improved. Oh wow, this means there are some upgrades and it isn’t just some slap-on lipstick and call it a day.

If you are those who constantly think that the 4 Series is just a two-door 3 Series, this is where you are mistaken. On paper, the differences are in the minor details. For example, the 4 Series has a lower centre of gravity than the 3 Series (Coupé: -40 mm, Gran Coupé: -30 mm, Convertible: -20 mm). In terms of width, the 4 Series is also wider by 14mm at the front and 22mm at the rear. Also, it has specially configured kinematics, giving it all the ingredients needed for even more agile handling. Don’t ask me what it means.

BMW’s engineers also greatly enhanced the cars’ dynamic handling capabilities by revising the 4 Series’ suspension, but without compromising on the car’s impressive ride comfort.

The new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé both now come with stiffer suspension, featuring more advanced damping technology and an upgraded steering set-up. These measures have resulted in a tangible improvement in both lateral and longitudinal handling properties, regardless of the load on board. The upshot is reduced roll, more neutral responses when driving at the limit, even greater straight-line stability and the wonderfully precise steering for which BMW is renowned. This applies to the standard suspension, as well as the M Sport suspension and Adaptive suspension.

In terms of other upgrades, you get new LED headlights, changes to the interior as well as additional new features for the in car systems such as navigation and in certain countries, real time traffic information. There are also more options to choose from for the interior styling. Night Blue Dakota, Cognac Dakota and Ivory White Dakota leather have been added to the range – three new, very elegant upholstery colours that come with coordinated contrast stitching and piping. New choices for the interior trim, meanwhile, include Aluminium Carbon with Pearl Chrome highlight and Black High-Gloss with Pearl Chrome highlight.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the 4 Series especially the BMW M4. BMW hasn’t also forgotten about the M4. The M4 gets the same new design looks as well as an exterior carbon set which makes the M4 look a little bit fiercier.
