Uber returns to Taiwan

After suspending operations in Taiwan for a couple of months, the team at Uber has managed to work with the government to partner and team with licensed car rental companies as well as their licensed drivers.

“It is great to be back again serving Taiwanese riders, drivers and cities,” said Likai Gu, General Manager of Uber Taiwan. “Starting today, people in Taipei can book an Uber ride, and we expect to bring back Uber to other cities in near future. We want to partner with more legal transportation service partners in weeks and months to come, whether they be from rental car companies or the taxi industry.”

The stem of the suspension of their services was due to a change in a regulation made by Taiwan’s legislature where the fine of illegally transporting a passenger shot up to enormous amounts which made Uber suspend its ride-hailing services in February this year.
