We reported earlier about Singapore’s first electric hyper car, the Dendrobium, who made its debut at the Geneva Motorshow. Here is a little bit more about the Dendrobium as well as the specs. At an interview with the Peak, Singapore, we learned that the car will have 4 electric motors pushing more than a thousand horsepower and 4,000Nm of torque. It can do the century sprint in 2.6 seconds and have a top speed of 400kmh.
That is absolutely bonkers! Also, I think the name is bonkers and not in a good way.
“The car’s design was always ahead of its time and the technology available in the 1990s hadn’t quite caught up yet. But with the world being more receptive to the idea of zero emission vehicles and with an increased consciousness of e-mobility, it was the perfect opportunity for the Dendrobium (named after a genus of orchids native to Singapore) to come to life.” – Larissa Tan, CEO of Vanda Electrics, the company behind the hypercar.
So how is a company in Singapore able to produce such an amazing hypercar beater especially for an island which restricts car speeds? All thanks to Williams Automotive Engineering, the brains behind Formula One teams. Together they brought what they had from the drawing board to a concept car in 15 months.
To give a bit of context on how bonkers this car is, the McLaren P1 does the century sprint in 2.7 seconds and maxes out at 350kmh, and the Ferrari 812 will only have a max speed of 340kmh. Again this is still an electric hypercar so the Dendrobium, on paper, has a range of 400km only. Of course, we expect this figure to drop dramatically as one maxes out the car.
The only issue, where does one bring this super fast hypercar to test out its various high-end specs? Why Malaysia of course. I hope.
