It seems that F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone can’t stop looking for new hosts for Formula One (F1), with the latest report suggesting that Azerbaijan could host an F1 race in 2016. According to a recent media report, F1 will race in the country courtesy of a deal facilitated by former Renault Team Principal Flavio Briatore, who has business interests in the oil-rich nation located in between Western Asia and Eastern Europe.

“The people out there [in Azerbaijan] are talking about holding a race in 2015. That may be a bit soon — unless it’s at the end of the season, that’s a possibility. But 2016 is more likely.” said Ecclestone. If all goes well, it will be a street circuit race in the capital city of Baku, where it previously hosted the FIA’s GT Series. Azerbaijan will also join an increasing list of countries lining-up to host an F1 race beyond 2015, with Mexico and Thailand on the waiting list.
