On Wednesday, German prosecutors searched Audi’s two biggest plants as well as other sites which are in connection to its parent company, Volkswagen, diesel-gate issue which gave rise some 18 months ago according to a report by Reuters.
“With these search orders we aim to clarify in particular who was involved in deploying the technology concerned and in the provision of false information to third parties,” the Munich prosecutor’s office said in a statement on Wednesday, without naming any suspects.
The raids occurred during a press conference in which their CEO, Rupert Stadler, was giving a presentation on Audi’s 2016 performance.
“I have all along supported efforts to clear up the diesel issue at Audi,” he told reporters while conceding that efforts to recover from the scandal were “far from over”.
As Volkswagen continues on its long journey away from the scandal, Audi is working hard to put the issue behind as well.
Volkswagen has released a statement in regards to the recent searches by the German prosecutors.
“We consider the action of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Munich to be unacceptable in every respect. In our opinion, a search carried out on the premises of a law firm which has been instructed by a company is a clear breach of the principles of the rule of law laid down in the Code of Criminal Procedure. This has also been expressly confirmed by the Federal Constitutional Court in the case of another law firm. We will take all the action at our disposal against these proceedings.”
