Gumpert Explosion ‘exploding’ on the roads soon!

Naming a car, moreover a supercar, can be a tricky proposition. While Lamborghini names their beauties based on elements related to bullfighting which makes it exquisite, (err, okayyy) it is not the same for McLaren as their wonderful engineered cars which sound like a machinery codes. German small scale supercar maker, Gumpert, however decided to name their latest creation with a bang (literary). Hence the latest Gumpert supercar is called the Explosion.

Created by the former Audi man who masterminded Audi’s dominance in world rallying three decades ago, the Gumpert Explosion is a front-engined, all-wheel drive machine. Powered by a 2L turbo four powerplant that has been beefed up to produce a whopping 420bhp with 520 Nm of torque. If this is too tame, there’s a planned Explosion S in the works, which adds one cylinder and bores an additional 0.5L which produces 503bhp with 625 Nm of torque!

The Explosion can run the 0-100km/h in 3 seconds with a top speed in excess of 300 km/h, thanks to the tubular frame and carbon-fiber chassis overlaid in aluminum and fiberglass bodywork. With the starting price of €105,000, the car can be viewed in the Geneva Motor Show this week. Surely, the car’s explosive (pun intended) performance may blow away drivers on the tarmac, although I do hope they can do something to improve the interior, which looks like it is inspired from a souped-up Proton.
