The new Caterham Moto2 team has just revealed their new sponsor, AirAsia – which doesn’t seem as a surprise as both brands are owned by Tony Fernandes. This year the bikes of Caterham Moto2 team will sport the red and white colors of Air Asia, with the team rebranded as ‘AirAsia Caterham Moto Racing Team.’

Team Principal Mia Sharizman commented: “Two-wheeled motorsport is a new venture for Caterham Group and one that we believe will be a long term project. It is an exciting time for us, and I would like to thank AirAsia for the opportunity.

“It is great to see their development and commitment to the sport from initially supporting an event, to their backing of Malaysian rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin who will compete in Moto3 class this year. I believe our partnership with AirAsia as a Moto2 team is the next progressive step and will provide an excellent opportunity to develop up and coming Asian riders on a worldwide branding platform.

“The team is in high spirits and we hope to show our gratitude to AirAsia throughout the year by achieving good results”.

The team has recruited American Superbike champion Josh Herrin and Moto2 regular Johann Zarco to race for Caterham this season. Caterham will make its track debut with new liveries in the final pre-season test, at Jerez, from March 11-13. The Moto2 class is the feeder series to the premier MotoGP class where all bikes will be powered by the similar Honda engine, while teams are allowed to choose the chassis providers. The team has agreed a chassis partnership with Suter.
