Mazda Hazumi Concept (18)

After showing a couple of teaser images on the web, Mazda has finally taken the wraps off the Hazumi concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. This concept car previews the next-generation Mazda2 due later this year and oh, boy, the Hazumi concept is without any doubt one of the most attractive city cars thanks to a refined Kodo design language which makes the car look a bit imposing despite its compact dimensions.

According to Mazda, the concept’s name Hazumi is a Japanese word meaning to “bound” or “spring-up” and was chosen to convey an image of a small but vigorous animal, bursting with energy. It also describes potential B-segment buyers who are young, dynamic, vibrant and ambitious.

The Mazda Hazumi concept is powered by a newly developed Euro 6-compliant SkyActiv-D 1.5 turbodiesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission enabling the Hazumi concept to have CO2 emissions of less than 90 g/km. The concept has been envisioned with the full array of SkyActiv technologies tailored specifically for a subcompact car.

The next-generation of the Mazda2 will probably be unveiled in October at the Paris Motor Show before going on sale early 2015 but at the meantime, check out the gallery below. Perhaps, if you pray hard enough for a production version of this concept, Mazda may just make your wish come true.
