Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, has introduced the new Peugeot 208 GTi into our local market.
“Since we first introduced the 208 GTi to the Malaysian market in 2013, it has been one of our top sellers hot hatch market in Malaysia. We strongly believe, the new 208 GTi with its new upgraded engine to 208 hp will reinvigorate the sporting passion in the performance hatch segment. Despite the increase in Forex, we have managed to keep the pricing of the new 208 GTi competitive at RM143,888 on the road complete with insurance.” said Dato’ Samson Anand George, Group Chief Operating Officer, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings Sdn Bhd.
The new 208 GTi is powered by a 1.6-litre THP (Turbo High Pressure) engine, churning out 208hp and 300Nm of torque, 8hp more and a good 25Nm bump compared to its predecessor. When paired to a 6-speed mechanical gearbox the 208 GTi accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 6.5 seconds – 3 seconds quicker than its predecessors – while top speed is limited at 230 km/h.
The performance of the new 208 GTi calls for an appropriate braking system. It features perforated discs, 302mm diameter at the front and 249mm at the back. With its finely adjusted undercarriage (Pseudo McPherson at the front, torsion beam at the back), Peugeot claims the new 208 GTi boasts agile and precise road behaviour.
In terms of its overall looks, the new 208 GTi now gets a new front bumper with sharper and more precise line. The wider front grille and its thicker surround are now fully integrated into the bumper. The front face still impresses with Peugeot’s exclusive light signature that consist of LED daytime running lights for indicators and daytime lighting, while the rear LED claw effect tail light ensures good visibility when driving especially at night.
Inside the cabin, the new 208 GTi has been designed around you, where the head-up instrument cluster and the compact steering wheel ensure precise steering and an exciting, instinctive and safe drive, without taking your eyes off the road. The 7-inch colour touchscreen, which comes as standard in the 208 GTi has a red and black redline sport theme and gives you access to the navigation system and the different features. This screen has USB port for listening to music or changing your devices, and a Bluetooth connection for making and receiving calls safely.
The seats is upholstered in Club Nappa leather with Caro Weave fabric finish. The driving position is further elevated by the full-grain leather steering wheel complete with intuitive controls.
In terms of safety, the new 208GTi is equipped with a comprehensive list of safety features including Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS, EBA and EBFD. It also comes with the latest-generation Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which is able to detect the first signs of a sideways skid and helps reduce over steer.
Passive safety features include 6 airbags, front pre-tensioning seatbelts, seatbelt fastening warning system and a collapsible steering column.
Available in two choice of colours – Digital White and Rogue Red, the new 208 GTi is priced at RM143,888 on-the-road. It also comes with Nasim’s 5-years Peace of Mind warranty valid for a total of 5 years or up to 120,000 km whichever comes first.
