Well well well. What do we have here? Looks like Bermaz is going to debut the Mazda MX-5 RF real soon.
Spotted at Mazda’s headquarters in Glenmarie is the Mazda MX-5 RF, which is a regular Mazda MX-5 but with a Retractable Hardtop, hence the name RF.
The Mazda MX-5 RF remains identical to its soft-top sibling, this retractable hardtop can also be opened and closed with ease with a flip of a switch. It can achieve an opening/closing time of approximately 13 seconds. Visually, the RF receives a unique fastback-like styling that surprisingly looks very apt on the MX-5.
Boot space did not take much of a hit, as this Mazda MX-5 gets a 127-liter boot space, as the retractable rear window is stowed behind the rear seats.
Mechanically, the Mazda MX-5 RF is identical to the regular MX-5. An option of a SkyActiv-G 1.5 or 2.0-litre engine is available, though we believe Malaysian units will receive the latter mated to a SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic. The six-speed manual option is also available for those keen drivers.
We understood that the manual equipped Mazda MX-5 RF could be priced around the regular variant and bookings are already opened for those interested. Expect the launch to happen soon.
