Honda has taken the wraps off the 2017 Honda City facelift in India, with a new stylish and sporty exterior design, enhanced safety features and an advanced high-technology infotainment system.
Offered in 5 grades, Honda has introduced a new flagship grade for the 2017 City called the ZX grade. Apart from the safety features available in the other variants, the ZX grade features best-in-class 6 airbags – front dual airbags, both side curtain airbags and both front seat side airbags. Additionally, the ZX variant comes with automatic headlights, headlamp auto-off timer and automatic rain-sensing wipers.
In terms of its overall looks, the 2017 City has a wide stance, with a sporty, wide-opening bumper design and a new signature front chrome grille with intricate design connecting the two headlights, which accentuates its premium appeal.
2017 City also features new LED package, including the integrated LED DRL (for the first time standard across all variants in the segment), the inline LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, LED RR Combi, LED license plate lamps and trunk lid spoiler with LED.
The new Honda City 2017 will also feature a new diamond-cut and two-tone alloy wheel design for both 15- and 16-inch wheels. Aside from that, the 2017 City adds on first-in-segment auto-folding door mirrors in the V, VX and ZX grades.
There are several new features found in 2017 City’s cabin which includes an advanced 17.7 cm touchscreen infotainment system, called the Digipad, in the V, VX and ZX grades. The all-new advanced infotainment system houses features such as satellite-linked navigation, voice recognition, Bluetooth telephony, audio streaming, 1.5 GB internal memory, 2 USB-in slots, 2 microSD card slots and 1 HDMI-in slot. On top of that, it is also equipped with the-first-in-its-segment Wi-Fi connectivity for Internet and Mirror Link.
Elsewhere inside the cabin, the 2017 City comes with soft-touch dashboard on the passenger side and new white illumination in the advanced 3D multi-information meter. Other interior features found in the 2017 City include chrome plating on steering switches and chrome plated knobs for rear-air conditioning vent. Tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, new white and red illumination for engine one push start-stop ignition system button, fully auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror and new LED interior cabin lights are also available as a standard feature in the 2017 City. Meanwhile, the ZX variant gets rear-adjustable headrests.
For the Indian market, the 2017 City is offered in either petrol or diesel variant. The 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine delivers a maximum power of 100ps with a maximum torque of 200 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. In the diesel model, a number of new sound and vibration absorption technologies have been applied to further reduce the Noise Vibration and Harshness levels and to ensure a comfortable ride for all its passengers.
The 1.5L i-VTEC engine on the other hand, delivers a maximum power of 119 ps and a maximum torque of 145 Nm. It is mated to either Honda’s CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) with 7-speed paddle shifters or a 5-speed manual transmission.
In terms of safety, the 2017 City is equipped with a range of Honda’s active and passive safety technologies as a standard feature, such as dual SRS front airbags, Anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), 3- Point ELR seat belts with pretensioners & load limiters, impact mitigating front head rest system, pedestrian injury mitigation technology, ISOFIX compatible rear seats and rear windshield defogger.
Available in 5 colours – Modern Steel Metallic (New), White Orchid Pearl, Carnelian Red Pearl, Alabaster Silver Metallic and Golden Brown Metallic, the 2017 Honda City facelift is priced between Rs. 8.49 lakh (est RM56,000) to Rs. 13.52 lakh (est RM89,000).
