Proton’s search for a foreign strategic partner will be concluded after this Wednesday, after its deadline on 15 February.
This came from Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who told reporters that the decision will be made after going through proposals from Geely, PSA Group and Renault.
Elsewhere, Second International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan told NST that Proton will be moving its production plant from Shah Alam to Tanjung Malim in 2018. Moving its production plant will increase Proton’s production capacity and is able to create some 10,000 jobs for those in Tanjung Malim. Furthermore, the move can centralize Proton’s group operations.
“The government does not intend to interfere in its business because we do not have any interest and they are free to make their own decision. However, we will continue to give ours views to Proton,” he told NST.
