The South Korean firm launched the new model nearly a year ago, featuring a more matured design over the outgoing version with a sloping rear window that resembles a fastback. Hyundai then released a sportier Elantra Sport featuring sportier front and rear end with new headlights and tail lights plus a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct-injection (T-GDI) engine that does 201 hp and 260 Nm, which can be mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT with paddle shifters. On top of the additional ponies, the Elantra Sport also boasts a multilink-type rear suspension configuration.

Hyundai is also offering a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre engine paired to a six-speed automatic. With these two engines, it does seem that Hyundai has targeted the Honda Civic with the new Elantra. Word has it that the Elantra will be launched some time in the second quarter of this year.

UPDATE: Our friends over at Funtasticko just published several additional photos of the Hyundai Elantra Sport in Malaysia. On top of the sportier variant, a lower spec version can be seen, featuring LED daytime running lights, front fog lights, wing mirrors with integrated turn signals and steel wheels.
