For the first time ever, Toyota’s baby SUV has been spied in the Asean region and it appears that the new C-HR could be assembled in Thailand! C-HR is short for Coupe High Rider.

A few days back, we reported that the Indonesian version of the Toyota C-HR could receive the same powertrain as the Sienta, a 1.5-litre Dual-VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a CVT driving the front wheels. Not much is known about the Thai C-HR, but it is unlikely Toyota will offer the same engines as the European models.

Sitting on Toyota’s TNGA platform, the Toyota C-HR is the Aichi-based company’s answer to the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3. The model made a global debut last year, offering two choices of engines, a small 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.8-litre Hybrid. Due to cost concerns, it is very unlikely Toyota will offer these powertrain here.

Us Malaysians can expect the Toyota C-HR to make a local debut some time later this year. From what we understood, UMW Toyota Motor could introduce the C-HR as a CKD option instead of importing it from Toyota’s plant in Kerawang (like the Sienta).
