McLaren’s latest baby, the 650S, has stormed the headlines when it clocked 8.4 seconds, but not 0-100km/h, which we’re betting is what you thought the figure was referring to, but 0-200km/h! No, that’s not a typo. Such astonishing acceleration means the 650S is a second faster than McLaren’s other classic hypercar, the F1.
If you are curious about how fast this car goes from 0-100km/h, it was reported this car can hit that in ust 3 seconds. It does the quarter mile (400 meters) in a mere 10.5 seconds. Such bespoke performance figures are the result of a highly modified 3.8L twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 641 HP and 678 Nm of torque, made possible thanks to the new McLaren engine management software, updated programming of its seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and enhanced chassis tuning with emphasis on more downforce than the 12C.
More goodies were loaded into the standard 650S compared to the 12C, which includes lightweight forged alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, LED headlights, an Alcantara interior, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Creature comfort equipment was added, including an updated sat-nav and a sophisticated, screen-based audio system. An electric steering column, a rear park camera, fixed-back carbon racing seats and carbon fibre trims are among the option list.
Also revealed was the price of this car; the 650S can be yours for £195,250, which is almost an additional £30,000 over the standard 12C coupe. The car is expected to make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show happening this week.
