In the recently concluded Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia, Russia emerged victorious at the top of the medal standings. This led to the Russian Government rewarding their medalists handsomely for their service to the Motherland. Apart of the prize money of $120,000 being handed out for each gold medalist, $76,000 being awarded for silver medalist and $52,000 given to bronze winners, now each of these Russian medalists can drive home a new Mercedes!

Just like the staggered prize monies, three types of Mercedes SUVs were given away where gold medalists will take home the new GL-Class, followed by the silver medalists with a ML, while the bronze medalists were given a GLK. Since Team Russia has won 13 golds, 11 silvers and 9 bronze medals, a total of 45 brand new Mercedes-Benzes were given away, including for events involving more than one person.

“I was a bit shocked at the car I was given. Of course I knew what kind of model it would be, but I didn’t totally believe it” said Anton Shipulin, a member of the gold-medal biathlon relay team. For underage athletes, like figure skating medalist Julia Lipnitskaia who is just 15-years-old, a driver will be included with their Mercedes. Say what?
