The Kia Picanto is gearing up to enter its third generation next year and to anticipate its arrival, Kia has released the first design details of the A-segment city car.
The Picanto is a big seller for Kia globally, and the company has promised buyers more personalisation options with this third generation model, as well as a high-tech interior and plenty of convenience and safety equipment.
From looks alone, the all-new Picanto takes on a far more sportier appearance than the current model it replaces, while keeping its compact dimensions. It feature a gaping front grille, beefy front bumper and LED lighting. Kia’s trademark Tiger Nose grille can also be seen here. Unlike the current Picanto, this new gen model will only be available in five-door body style.
By growing in size, the Picanto’s cabin will be more spacious than before and should offer extra legroom for passengers sitting in the back. At the same time, the trunk’s capacity will also grow slightly bigger to make the Picanto more convenient on longer trips.
The interior represents a significant departure from the outgoing model and it seems to be more upmarket with the same tablet-style infotainment touchscreen found in the new Rio. Between the two circular instrument cluster dials there’s a digital round screen, while the steering wheel appears to be borrowed from the new Rio as well.
Kia hasn’t revealed the powertrain specifications of the compact car, but they’re likely to be small, turbocharged petrol motors. The all-new Kia Picanto is expected to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show before going on sale later in 2017.
