Toyota’s latest foray into the compact SUV segment, the all-new C-HR is under consideration for CKD production in Indonesia, after being previewed at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show back in August 2016.
Warih Andang Tjahjono, Vice President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) states that the company is keen to see the market demand before commencing local production of the new Toyota C-HR. If given the greenlight, the Toyota C-HR will be Toyota Indonesia’s first model to be based on the new TNGA platform.
Looking at how popular the Honda HR-V and Nissan Juke is in Indonesia, it is no surprise that Toyota Indonesia is keen to introduce the C-HR there. However, for the Indonesia market, OtoDriver reckons that the Indonesian Toyota C-HR will feature adjusted specifications to suit their market. Think of it as the same concept as the JDM Toyota Sienta and the Indonesia Toyota Sienta.
The JDM Toyota Sienta is offered with three powertrain options, a 2NR-FKE, 1NZ-FXE, 1NZ-FE. All of which are 1.5-litre four-cylinder engines. As for the Indonesian model (and Malaysian), power is derived from a 1.5-litre 2NR-FE four-cylinder engine with Dual VVT-i. On top of the different engine, the Indonesian Sienta also features a 20 mm increase in height when compared to the JDM Sienta, plus a floor-mounted gear shifter, grip-type handbrake and revised air conditioning controls.
Globally, the Toyota C-HR is offered with two powertrains, a 1.2-litre turbo and a 1.8-litre hybrid mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT. CVT equipped versions are available with either front- or all-wheel drive.
