Suzuki Indonesia has confirmed that they will debut a new variant of the Ertiga MPV in Indonesia next year, a diesel-powered Ertiga with a mild hybrid.
The mild hybrid system is perhaps the first of its kind for the MPV segment, with power coming from a 1.3-litre turbodiesel D13A that does 89 hp and 200 Nm. The diesel powertrain is mated to an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a automatic start/stop system. Suzuki calls this the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS).
For improved torque, the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) replaces the regular alternator. The ISG will aid the diesel powertrain to deliver more torque when needed, on top of the 200 Nm from the diesel engine. Apart from ISG, the Suzuki Ertiga SHVS will feature Brake Energy Recuperation, which as the name implies, recuperates brake energy and stores it into the ISG battery.
The diesel hybrid powertrain, according to official tests, is able to deliver 24.5 km/L. However, the Suzuki Ertiga SHVS is only available with a manual transmission, with a shift indicator that is aimed to reduce fuel consumption.
Harold Donel, head of Product Development & Accessories at PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales said that the diesel hybrid powertrain in the new Ertiga SHVS is able to save up to 50% more fuel than the petrol-powered sibling.
