At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen will introduce its latest iteration of the Polo family including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, TDI BlueMotion, BlueGT and CrossPolo, plus the R-Line packages alongside the already announced regular models of the series.
First up is the Volkswagen CrossPolo, Volkswagen’s small faux off-roader that benefits from some light visual tweaks. It boast a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels, protection panels on the front and rear bumpers, a handful of silver accents and smoked rear lights. On the inside, drivers will benefit from new cabin fabrics, sport seats and a redesigned steering wheel.
Up next is the Polo TSI BlueMotion equipped with a 3-cylinder, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine rated at 89bhp. Volkswagen claims its Polo TSI BlueMotion is the most fuel-efficient petrol engine consuming only 4.1-litres / 100 km. The Polo TDI BlueMotion on the other hand, makes use of a three-cylinder 1.4-litre with 74bhp which is good enough for 3.1-litres / 100 km.
Also joining the range is the new Polo BlueGT that gains 10bhp from the tweaked 1.4-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with cylinder deactivation that now delivers 148bhp and 250Nm of torque, connected to either a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. With the former, the BlueGT has a combined fuel consumption of 4.8-litres /100km. The BlueGT also gets 15mm lowered ride height, 17-inch wheels, more muscular bumpers, wider side sills and a rear spoiler positioned above the tailgate.
The final addition from the Polo family is the new R-Line packages that can be distinguished by unique bumpers and several high-gloss accents, including the grill and bottom air inlet screen. The most prominent changes are found on the inside with options for Alcantara or leather, contrasting colours and R-Line logos on the race seats.
