Vespa has changed the lives of entire generations all over the world, always giving the most advanced answer to their desire for mobility. On the back of more than 18 million models, over 1.5 million of which have been sold in the last decade alone, such global success has made Vespa one of the most recognizable scooter brands in the world.

Following this success, Vespa’s parent company, Piaggio, is now investing in electric mobility. The company has showcased the Vespa Elettrica project at the on-going 2016 Milan Motorcycle Show (EICMA).

At the moment, this shiny silver Vespa Elettrica is just a concept scooter and specification details or pricing have yet to be revealed. There’s no denying that riders will be able to zip around supercities in style, but Piaggio is also promising familiar Vespa agility, ease of use and riding pleasure from the new electric scooter.

Piaggio also points out its electric motor heritage dates back as far as the mid-seventies where the company has launched the first and best-sold hybrid scooter.

The concept will eventually be mass produced under the name Vespa Elettrica. The production and sales are expected to begin in the second half of 2017.
