Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) once again returned to the off-roading race scene, announcing its participation in the highly anticipated Rainforest Challenge (RFC). In addition, the Nissan Navara has been endorsed as the official car during the entire event.
The announcement was made today by ETCM Executive Director, Mr Tan Keng Meng during the key handover ceremony held at ETCM HQ. Also present was Founder and Event Director of Rainforest Challenge (RFC), Mr Luis J.A. Wee.
This year, ETCM provides 3 units of Nissan Navara with YD25DDTi engine that produces a maximum power output of 163 PS and torque of 403Nm/2,000rpm. 2 of the 3 units are the 2.5L SE with 7-Speed Auto Transmission and one 2.5L SE with 6-Speed Manual Transmission. The Nissan Navara units are kept standard as possible with only required outfit equipment for contest such as bull bars, halogen spot lights, winch, protection bars, recovery kit, extreme tires, suspension and snorkel.
According to Mr. Tan, the collaboration enhances the Nissan Navara as the “Ultimate Pickup”. “ETCM is honoured to be supporting the world renowned 4×4 event as it is a great platform in showcasing the performance of Nissan Navara through these challenging trails and in addition as the official cars to assist in the overall RFC operational matters. The Nissan Navara is highly rated for its toughness, off-road capabilities and engine performance across the world that requires the ability to weather the drenching rain, mud, slippery slopes, deep ruts, gullies, flooded rivers, and landslides.”
The special 20th edition RFC 2016 will be held from 24th November to 5th December 2016, starting with contestants’ registration on 24th, and a Media Event on the 25th November at Publika Shopping Gallery. This will then be followed by technical checks and flag off session at Dataran Merdeka on the 26th November. RFC 2016 will proceed to Pahang, starting off in Kuantan for the opening Prologue Special Stages on the 27th which furthers into a nine-day hard-core adventure.
Rated among the Top Ten Toughest Motor Races in the World, Malaysia hosts the 4×4 off-road racing finale event of RFC Global Series with participation from over 30 nations.
