In our final installment of the Ferrari Racing Days, we will cover the track day action, which comprised the XX programme, and two rounds of the 2014 Ferrari Asia Pacific Challenge at the Sepang International Circuit.
The XX programme is a special course from Corse Clienti which allows clients to indulge and feel the thrill behind the wheel of either the Ferrari FXX or Ferrari 599 XX race machines. Clients are allowed to join as part of the research and development with Ferrari on enhancing these cars, and then driven into the limit on prestigious race tracks all around the world from the United States, Italy, Abu Dhabi and Japan. Malaysia’s own Sepang Circuit is now included among the XX’s track list.
The Enzo FXX and 599 XX are true race bred machines that are capable of a blistering pace and produce savage noises from the exhaust that is both loud and mesmerizing to listen to (if you a true petrolhead, that is). If there is one thing road cars can benefit from race technologies, the Enzo FXX and 599XX are prime examples of it.
There were a few Ferrari owners who took this opportunity to bring their prized possession to the track.
There were two rounds of the Ferrari Asia Pacific Challenge held last weekend in Sepang. This one-make GT race series from Ferrari allows gentleman drivers from the Asia Pacific region to compete for glory in the similar spec’ed Ferrari 458C cars. Consisting of the Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell classes, the former is for professional competition drivers while the latter is targeted for amateur gentleman drivers.
In the Trofeo Pirelli class, the first race was won by Philippe Prette, while Steve Wyatt took top honors on the second race. In the Coppa Shell class, David Tjiptobiantoro emerged victorious in both races.
Meanwhile, the driver whose’s name is Greg should be smitten by the efforts from his fans.
Lastly, there was a driver’s parade where over 100 Ferrari owners drove the entire track for two laps to mark the closing of the successful inaugural Ferrari Racing Days in Malaysia. Let’s hope Ferrari will bring back this event again next year, hopefully with the inclusion of the real LaFerrari hypercar as well.
