Team Malaysia again took the Country Champion award in the Asia Lexus Cup Golf Tournament 2016, where Malaysian Lexus owners ruled the entire show by grabbing the winner’s position, beating their Asia Pacific counterparts and became champion of the Lexus Cup 2016.
Held in Da Nang, Vietnam, from 10 – 11 October 2016, the event hosted by Lexus Asia Pacific Division and its regional distributors since 2012, saw a total of 57 golfers from 8 Asian countries meeting at the world-class Montgomerie Links golf course in Da Nang, Vietnam.
The golfers came from Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, having earlier been the top scorers in Lexus-organised tournaments in their respective countries.
This year’s Asia Lexus Golf Tournament was held in difficult weather conditions with occasional rain delaying play on the second day. A new challenge this year was the Speed Competition which was won by Team Taiwan. Players from the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand were dominant in the tournament, taking home 7 of the 16 awards. For the 2nd consecutive year, Team Malaysia – consisting of Tham Kim Seng, Tan YeowKwang, Chai Koon Khow and Moh Chee Leong – won the Country Champions award.
There were also special awards for the Best Dressed Golfers which went to 3 players from South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
4 Pro golfers from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) – Beatriz Recari and Azahara Munoz from Spain and Jessica Korda and Alison Lee from the USA, were also present at the event to demonstrate their skills and offered tips to players to improve their game.
“Congratulations to Team Malaysia for bringing home the Country Champions award from the 2016 Asia Lexus Cup Golf Tournament. Clearly, the 4 members demonstrated consistently high golfing skills to collect the highest total score among all the countries participating,” said Mr. Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd.
