Jaguar Land Rover has announced an animated character as their new global ambassador called Noodle. If you’re not familiar with the character, Noodle is the 21st Century Japanese guitarist and the founding member of a virtual British band called Gorillaz. The band have released 5 albums since 2000, selling in excess of 100 million records globally.
Jaguar Land Rover wants to use the animation figure as a way to inspire young people to pursue careers in technology and engineering.
Noodle’s first role is working with the Panasonic Jaguar Racing Formula E team. The company wants the character to highlight the increasing role of electrification in the auto market. They believes this is the biggest technological revolution ever in the car industry.
Fiona Pargeter, Global PR Communications Director, Jaguar Land Rover said, “By 2022 we’re facing a shortfall of 300,000 skilled engineers in the UK alone. It is our responsibility to change this future by inspiring young people.”
“Yes we want to be successful on track, but Formula E can be a once in a generation opportunity to inspire the future generations of engineers. A global platform to inspire and attract young children to a career in innovation and engineering – through Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s partnership with Noodle we hope to inspire millions of young people to help invent the future,” she added.
Commenting on her new role as a new global ambassador and now part of the @JaguarRacing team, Noodle said, “The young minds of today are the engineers of tomorrow. We are in the driving seat and our imaginations are the fuel. It’s time to lead the charge and build a better world!”
Jaguar Land Rover kicks off its campaign with the release of a short video showing Noodle driving the Formula E racer. The anime character is apparently quite adept behind the wheel.
