Subaru Technica International (STI), Subaru’s motorsport and tuning arm has released the WRX S4 tS in Japan, based on the WRX S4. The model will be on sale from today till 12 March 2017.
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder FA20 engine that pumps out 300 PS and 400 Nm that drives all four wheels. Like the Subaru WRX we sampled here, the WRX S4 tS is available exclusively with a Lineartronic CVT.
In terms of enhancements, STI says that the WRX S4 tS boasts a 10% improvement in engine torque during acceleration thanks to modified air intake and exhaust parts, added oil cooler improves cooling performance of the Sport Lineartronic CVT.
Similar to the the WRX S207, handling is improved by the addition of original STI components including a flexible tower bar, DampMatic II front suspension with adjustable damping, and front-rear Active Torque Vectoring, all of which combine to achieve a strong yet flexible ride and sharp cornering. Braking performance has also been enhanced with Brembo opposed-piston 4-pot brakes in front.
Visually, the Subaru WRX S4 tS gets STI-designed BBS 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, cherry red pinstripe on the mesh-type front grille and rear bumper, large front under-spoiler, black roof antenna (shark fin type), while the interior features STI-spec Recaro front bucket seats and an exclusively-made luminescent speedometer.
On sale now, the limited run WRX S4 tS has a base price of JPY 4,600,000 for the standard variant. Subaru is also offering Japanese buyers with a NBR Challenge Package, which retails for JPY 4,900,000.
