Alongside the updated Nissan Rogue, Nissan USA has added the Sentra SR Turbo to the lineup, boasting a turbocharged direct injection engine that outputs 188 horsepower. Back home, the Nissan Sentra is identical to the Nissan Sylphy.
Nissan says that the Sentra SR Turbo remains visually identical to the Sentra SR, including its sporty exterior, interior and dual-tone wheels, the key changes are actually under the hood.
As its name implies, the Nissan Sentra SR Turbo is powered by a 1.6-litre Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) turbocharged engine that pushes out 188 horsepower and 240 Nm from 1,600 – 5,200 rpm, 64 hp and 70 Nm more than its naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre sibling.
Nissan is offering the Sentra SR Turbo with a six-speed manual, though customers can also choose the available Xtronic CVT, though enhanced to cope with the engine’s extra output.
Furthermore, Nissan is keen to point out that the Sentra SR Turbo also benefits from revised independent strut front and rear torsion beam suspension, including a 10 percent stiffer front spring. In addition to that, the SR Turbo’s front and rear shock absorbers have been tuned for use with the 17-inch wheels, with the front damping increased by 23 percent and rear damping by 50 percent.
The Nissan SR Turbo also benefits from increased front cowl thickness to new steering gear mounting. The Electric Power Steering (EPS) now gets improved with a larger steering motor and revised electronic mapping, allowing for a better balance between road feedback and reduced effort at parking and low speed situations.
Compared to the regular Sentra SR, the Sentra SR Turbo gets larger brakes up front, featuring 11.7-inch ventilated discs and 11.5-inch solid discs at the rear. Nissan says that the Active Understeer Control system has been optimized for the SR Turbo.
Like the Sentra SR, the turbocharged sibling gets LED low beam projector headlights with LED guide lights, lower body side sill extensions, rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light, fog lights, chrome exhaust finisher, heated outside mirrors with LED turn signals, and unique design 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 205/50R17 all-season tires.
Moving inside, the Sentra SR Turbo gets a sport interior trim, premium sport cloth seats, driver’s seatback pocket and heated front seats. Like other Sentra variants, it also features 5.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist Display (ADAD) located between the tachometer and speedometer.
Buyers can choose between seven colours for the Nissan Sentra SR Turbo, including Red Alert, Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Aspen White (premium color) and Deep Blue Pearl. The 2017 Sentra SR Turbo is assembled in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
