In conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha and Malaysia Day holidays next week, PLUS will be offering 20% toll rebate for PLUS highway users on the North-South Expressway (NSE), North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing (Linkedua) and the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) paying toll electronically.
The public paying toll electronically will still be required to pay the full amount on 12 September and 16 September. However, the 20% toll rebate (in a form of toll reload) can be redeemed when they reload their electronic cards at all PLUS customer service centres between 15 October 2016 and 14 January 2017.
The toll rebate can be enjoyed the whole day and is not restricted to a particular time frame. It is part of PLUS effort to encourage the public to switch to electronic toll payment system which is easier and faster.
The toll rebate however does not apply at these following toll plazas – Tanjung Kupang, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Penang Bridge.
Based on travelling patterns of highway users of past festive seasons, PLUS expects the traffic on the NSE to increase by 15% to 1.6 million vehicles every day between 9 September and 19 September 2016 as compared to 1.4 million on normal days.
To ease the traffic congestion, PLUS has released a Travel Time Advisory, aimed at preventing vehicles heading towards various destinations from ‘converging’ at the same location on the highway and contribute to traffic congestion.
Based on the PLUS TTA, Johor bound traffic from the Klang Valley are advised to enter the North-South Expressway (NSE) between 6 am and 3 pm. While Negeri Sembilan and Melaka bound traffic are encouraged to enter the NSE after 3 pm.
“The advisory, if adhered to, prevents vehicles heading towards Negeri Sembilan and Melaka uniting with Johor bound traffic. Instead, these vehicles will be scattered and distributed at various locations along the mainline. This will contribute to smoother traffic flow heading south. The same concept also applies to traffic heading up north,” explained PLUS Managing Director, Dato’ Noorizah Hj Abd Hamid.
“As such, we advise the public to plan their journey based on the TTA. Based on our studies and observation, traffic was generally smooth when more drivers followed the TTA during previous festive seasons,” Noorizah added.
