2016 Honda Accord facelift now available in Malaysia, priced from RM144,800

Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd has officially unveiled the updated ninth-generation Honda Accord, with an updated outlook plus improved equipment. The Honda Accord was earlier teased here. The ninth-generation Honda Accord was first unveiled in Malaysia, slightly over 3 years ago.

Visually, the updated Honda Accord now gets an updated front face, with the Accord 2.4 featuring a pair of LED headlights with LED DRLs plus LED front foglights. The Accord 2.0 variants continue with halogen projector units up front. Out goes the aged grille, now replaced with one that looks similar to the all-new Civic. Apart from that, the new Accord also gets a chrome slat that cuts across the lower air dam, though the general bumper shape remains identical to the outgoing model. According to Honda, the new Accord’s hood also bulges out slightly more than before.

Towards the rear, the new Honda Accord receives a pair of LED tail lights with three integrated guide lights. The facelifted Accord also carries over the chrome strip on the lower half of the bumper, though the lower half of the rear bumper has been subtly revised. Also new on the Accord is the rear fog light. A set of 17-inch alloy wheels complete the facelifted Accord 2.0’s exterior, while the Accord 2.4 receives a new set of 18-inch dual-tone units.

Inside, the 2016 Honda Accord now receives a new Advanced Display Audio, which is now Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible. Apart from that, the infotainment system also features MirrorLink for screen mirroring with compatible devices plus hotspot link for sharing a WiFi network with your mobile device for internet browsing via the built-in browser. New infotainment system aside, the 2016 Honda Accord now receives a new wood grain paint,with new gloss black metallic finishing for the Accord 2.0 VTi-L and 2.4 VTi-L. Furthermore, the meter cluster on the Accord has been updated with the ability to display infotainment details.

Under the hood is a choice of a 2.0-litre or a 2.4-litre engine, both of which are four-cylinder units with i-VTEC and naturally-aspirated. Both engines are paired to a five-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. In terms of power, the 2.0-litre pumps out 153 hp and 190 Nm, while the larger 2.4 unit outputs 172 hp and 225 Nm. Both engines are developed under Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology, which offers class-leading power while delivering an efficient drive.

Safety equipment remains generous, as the updated Honda Accord offers ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), front and rear parking sensors and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS). Furthermore, the Accord is equipped with six airbags across the range, on top of the auto dimming rear view mirror, rear view camera and Honda LaneWatch for the 2.0 VTi-L and 2.4 VTi-L variants. Smart entry with push start button is now standard for all Honda Accord variants.

Honda Malaysia is also offering the new Accord with three new colours, namely Obsidian Blue Pearl, White Orchid Pearl and Lunar Silver Metallic, on top of the current Modern Steel Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl. A total of three variants will be available, ranging from the entry level Accord 2.0 VTi, Accord 2.0 VTi-L and the 2.4 VTi-L.

Prices start from RM144,800 for the Honda Accord 2.0 VTi, while the Accord 2.0 VTi-L will set buyers back for RM153,800 . The flagship Honda Accord 2.4 VTi-L will cost RM172,800, a decrease of RM5,000 over the pre-facelifted model. The Honda Accord is backed by Honda’s 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage and the company is looking to shift 500 units a month.
