Following a couple of spyshots published just a few days ago, Honda has finally uncovered the new Gienia crossover at the on-going Chengdu Motor Show.
The Gienia is a new model to be produced in China through Honda’s joint venture with Dongfeng Honda Automobile. It is specifically built for the Chinese market and will be available for sale in China in late October this year.
The Gienia will cost about 90,000 yuan (est RM54k) in China and it will compete in one of the largest segments of the Chinese car market – the B-Segment. It shares the same platform as the Honda Griez which is essentially a Chinese iteration of the 4th generation Honda City.
The Gienia is described as a ‘compact crossover hatchback’ that combines flowing styling with a high quality and spacious interior. This new model also features the essence of sportiness with advanced technologies, which is suitable for the lifestyle of a wide range of customers in China, especially the young.
It measures 4,517 mm in length, 1,705 mm in width and 1,477 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.
Honda didn’t reveal any powertrain specifications of the crossover but it is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing a total output of 131hp and 155Nm of torque, mated either to a 5-speed manual or a CVT.
