Ducati Malaysia (Next Bike Sdn Bhd) told the tale of a new Monster as it launched the 796 Corse Stripe at Ducati Centre Petaling Jaya recently. Priced at RM63,888 (a very ‘ong’ number I guess), the latest incarnation of the Monster series combines the user-friendliness of the 696 with the sporty nature of the 1100 and brings the magic of the ‘mid-range’ back to the Monster family, which all began many moons ago with the M900.
With revised ergonomics and increased power, thanks to the brand new Desmodue 796 engine at its heart, the Monster 796 perfectly balances lifestyle performance with everyday functionality. Standard ABS and the striking Corse Stripe livery further emphasis Ducati’s authentic sporting spirit.
All elements, mounted on a light and immensely strong Trellis frame, have been redesigned and redeveloped to ensure that form follows function. Powered by a lightweight 803cc Desmodue air-cooled engine, the Monster 796 delivers 87hp at 8250rpm and 58lb-ft of torque at 6250rpm. The 796’s light weight, more torque, and high quality componentry makes the naked a smooth, responsive and thrilling ride.
Front suspension is handled by user-friendly 43mm Kayaba forks whilst a sporty single sided swingarm is controlled by a Sachs unit with adjustable spring and damping settings at the rear. The swingarm lends to the reduced final weight and improved road handling. A mildly urbanized riding position with higher handlebars inspires confidence and a new sear has been designed to enhance riding comfort.
“This mid-sized Monster is bound to become a new favorite amongst Malaysian riders and we estimate that this model will contribute to 35% of Ducati’s sale for 2014. Available to the local market as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units from Thailand, the Monster 796 Corse Stripe offers exceptional value for the price of RM63,888),” said Datuk Wira SM Faisal.
During the launch event, Ducati Malaysia took the opportunity to announce its latest offering to Ducati owners – the Ducati Safety Course (DSC) program which is a prelude program to the global Ducati Riding Experience (DRE) program, with levels ranging from ‘beginner’ to ‘advanced’. The DRE program would be run by a well-trained team of professionals and certification is provided in accordance with the bike and skills of the rider. In conjunction with the launch of the Monster 796, Ducati Malaysia introduce its first DSC beginner course that covers proper riding style, maintenance and familiarizing riders with their bikes.
The first DSC program will be conducted in the brand’s flagship showroom this weekend to its owners and members of the public are able to experience a mini version of the program on Sunday for FREE. Other DSC locations proposed include Penang and Johor.
