Dongfeng Honda, Honda’s China joint venture will be launching the new Honda Gienia in China next month. The Gienia is essentially a Honda City hatchback.
Unique to China, the Honda Gienia is derived from the Honda Concept B that was displayed at the Beijing Auto Show.
Visually, the Honda Gienia carries over much from the City its based on, though Dongfeng Honda has revised the Gienia’s front end, giving the car a much larger front fascia than the City. Headlight design has been subtly redesigned for the Gienia. Unlike our City here, the range-topping Gienie gets a pair of projector headlights.
Moving to the side, the Gienia is largely similar to the City, including its strong character line that runs from the front door to the tail light. The sloping C-pillar may look identical to the ones found on the City, but features an opening rear hatch here. The Gienia also features a pair of Civic-inspired tail lights on each end, connected by a large red strip. Some variants of the Gienia receives a large rear spoiler.
Inside, the Gienia is indistinguishable from the Honda City. The spyshot shows the range-topping Gienia with a touchscreen infotainment system with the touch panel air-conditioning system. The Gienie also receives leather upholstery with red stitching. Other highlights include power folding side mirrors, a sunroof, keyless entry, shark fin antenna plus front and rear parking sensors.
In China, the Honda Gienia is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated Earth Dreams Technology petrol engine that outputs 131 horsepower. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual and a CVT.
