Ford Motor Company in Thailand has agreed to buy back 100 defective cars from owners if the cars cannot be repaired.

The angry owners parked their Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta at the Royal Turf Club near Government House and filed a complaint with the public complaints centre regarding the issues they were facing with the dual-clutch transmission.

In addition to that, the Thais also filed a complaint at the US embassy, requesting Ford Motor Company’s HQ to improve their local service centres.

Ford’s Thai counterpart did not send a representative to settle the angry customers. “With the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) as mediator, we have been working with this small group of customers in good faith to try and resolve their respective situations,” according to Ford.

Despite initiating the OCPB’s mediation, this group has now refused an OCPB proposal to allow Ford the opportunity to fix the respective issues within six months. If the issues remain after this period, Ford would be obligated to buy back their vehicles at a fair market price provided by the OCPB,” Ford added.

Ford had previously reimbursed customers and extended warranties for customers affected by the gearbox issue.
