A recent software update that was wirelessly delivered to Tesla Model X models appears to have removed an important safety feature.

The said updated, according to this video, simply disables an array of sensors inside the car’s door that detects foreign objects. With the sensor disabled, the possibility of getting a hand or head struck by the falcon doors is much greater.

According to Tesla’s release notes, the new update, release v7.1 (2.32.100) improves the falcon wing door closing behaviour, which previously had many false obstacle detection. Teslarati, a site that covers Tesla models exclusively mentioned that the new update aims to fix the falcon wing doors from opening and closing themselves.

Before this update was delivered, the sensors in the door would stop the door from closing when it detects a foreign object, stopping and reversing a bit. In this latest update, the doors won’t stop until the other sensor detects the said object.
