Here it is folks, the most frugal BMW 3 Series in town, the BMW 330e plug-in hybrid has been officially launched by BMW Group Malaysia today.
The new locally assembled BMW 330e is the company’s second locally assembled hybrid vehicle with eDrive Technology and the 12th model to join the portfolio of locally-assembled vehicles at BMW Group Malaysia’s Assembly Facilities in Kulim Hi-Tech Park. Unlike the regular 3 Series, this 330e plug-in hybrid is equipped with an electric motor which works synchronously with a BMW TwinPower Turbo engine to deliver excellent fuel economy without compromising on performance.
Retaining exterior design features found to the BMW 3 Series, the new BMW 330e can be differentiated by a charging socket panel positioned on the left front wing of the car. Blue light effects will appear there at the start of the charging process to indicate the flow of energy. Meanwhile, the already familiar “eDrive” badge from the BMW i models graces the vehicle’s flanks. Further differentiating the character of the new BMW 330e are 18-inch V-spoke light alloy wheels with mixed sized tyres.
Aside from that, the BMW 330e also offers Head-Up Display, Rear View Camera and electric Glass Roof as a standard offering.
The new BMW 330e features an innovative hybrid powertrain comprising a 2-litre 4-cylinder combustion engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and a synchronous BMW eDrive electric motor integrated in an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Combined with a permanent rear-wheel drive system and eDrive technology, the 4-cylinder petrol unit is capable of churning a maximum of 252 hp with a peak torque of 420Nm. It has an astounding combined fuel consumption of 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions is at 49 grams per kilometre.
The electric motor meanwhile, delivers an output of 65 kW/88 hp and is able to travel at a top speed of 120 km/h in pure electric drive. Together, the new BMW 330e completes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 225 km/h.
The high-voltage battery of the BMW 330e offers a gross energy capacity of 7.6 kWh and can be topped up with energy from any domestic power socket. Full charge by the conventional domestic power socket would take 5 hours, while the BMW Wallbox Pro can offers a quicker charge time of 3.5 hours.
As part of BMW 360° Electric program, customers who purchase the new 330e will be offered with ChargeNow service. It consists of a ChargeNow card that grants straightforward access to partner charging stations like ChargEV which is offered through BMW Group Malaysia’s partnership with Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia). ChargEV stations are operational in 19 strategic locations throughout Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kedah, Melaka, and Johor.
