The 2016 Proton Persona is powered by the same 1.6-litre Campro VVT that powers the Iriz, outputting 107 hp at 5,750 rpm and 150 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Persona can be had with a five-speed manual or a Punch-sourced CVT, though the former is limited to just the Standard trim.

Available in four trims, the entry-level Standard retails for RM46,800 for the manual variant, while the CVT-equipped one will cost RM49,800, while the Executive trim retails for RM55,800. Moving another level up is the Premium trim, with a price tag of RM59,800. Proton is also offering a Premium SE trim with a unique bodykit, which will add another RM1,000 on top of the Premium variant. All prices are OTR with insurance.

Standard equipment across all variants include ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TC), Hill Hold Assist (HHA), ISOFIX child seat mounts, Eco mode, manual height adjustable halogen headlights, rear foglights, bulb type rear lights and front and rear parking sensors. Brakes are ventilated discs up front with drums at the rear. Despite having rear drums, Proton says that the new combination allows the Persona to stop from 100 km/h in 41.4 meters, versus its predecessor’s 44.6 meters. Also impressive is the boot space, which is a healthy 510-litres, an increase of 80-litres over its predecessor.
