2016 is a busy year for national car maker Proton, as they will be launching four new models this year alone. Thus far, the company has pulled the wraps off the all-new Proton Perdana. The 2016 Proton Persona is expected to debut some time this month.

We managed to obtain supposed specifications of Proton’s new B-segment sedan, which in essence, is a Proton Iriz sedan.

For starters, the new 2016 Proton Persona can be had in four different variants, which includes Standard, Executive, Premium and SE. The latter, according to the source, is limited to just 200 units.

Powering the 2016 Proton Persona is a 1.6-litre Campro VVT mill, similar to the one found on the Iriz 1.6. The engine can be had with a Punch CVT or a Getrag five-speed manual. We gathered that Proton engineers have worked hard to improve NVH levels on the new Persona, as everyone knows that the Punch CVT has been Proton’s weak point. In addition to better NVH levels, the Persona could see the addition of an Eco mode, to further reduce fuel consumption.

Inside, much of the design is similar to the Iriz its based on, though the Persona will benefit from a dual tone interior layout, with a black and light gray colour combination (can be seen in the video below). Leather upholstery will be available on the Premium variant. Boot space, according to the source, is said to be 500-litres.

Six body colours are available for the new Persona, with Camelian Brown being the newest addition. Other colours include Cotton White, Sterling Silver, Midnight Black, Silver Moon Dust and Fire Red. Furthermore, all variants of the Persona are said to get 15-inch wheels.

As the 2016 Proton Persona is based off the Iriz, safety equipment is also similar to the hatchback its based on. Standard safety equipment for all Persona variants include ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Hold Assist (HHA), Traction Control System (TCS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The minimum airbag count is two, and we expect to see up to 6 airbags on the range-topping variants.

Prices of the 2016 Proton Persona is said to start from RM46k for the Standard variants, topping up at RM59k for the SE variant. Assuming the Persona does not get delayed, we could see the new sedan making a debut in less than two weeks’ time.

Stay tuned!
