Honda has released photos of its new 2017 Freed, detailing the new MPV’s interior and technology.
Despite teasing us with these photos, Honda has yet to unveil the Freed’s official specifications. What we do know is that the Freed is now 4,265 mm in length, an increase of 50 mm over its predecessor. The Honda Freed’s nearest rival, the Toyota Sienta, measures at 4,235 mm.
The extra 50 mm in length meant that the interior of the Freed is now larger. Honda says that the distance between the front to second row and second row to third row is 90 mm each. If extra space is needed, the seats can slide, giving up to 120 mm in space.
Also new on the Honda Freed are the powertrains. The first option is a direct injection 1.5-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a CVT. On the other hand, Honda is offering a Sport Hybrid i-DCD system. Honda’s new hybrid solution no longer employs the use of a CVT, instead opting for a dual clutch transmission, as indicated by its name: Intelligent Dual Cluch Drive. The Honda Freed can also be had with 4WD.
Last but not least, the Honda Freed can be optioned with Honda Sensing. The system utilizes a radar and monocular camera that recognizes obstacles, including humans. The Honda Sensing package includes Adaptive
Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).
Nine body colours are available to the Japanese buyers, including Blue Horizon Metallic, Citron Drop, Cobalt Blue Pearl, Premium Deep Rosso Pearl, Mandarin Gold Metallic, White Orchid Pearl, Luna Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl.
