Proton is currently busy with the finishing touches on the new 2016 Saga, which is said to debut in September. We’ve managed to obtain some preliminary specifications of the new model.
First up, the new Proton Saga, as we mentioned earlier, will be powered solely by a 1.3-litre Campro VVT engine that is mated to a Punch-sourced CVT or a Getrag-sourced five-speed manual.
Next, all variants of the 2016 Proton Saga could receive twin airbags, ABS and Brake Assist, while Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Hold Assist (HHA) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is limited to the range-topping Premium variant.
Proton will be rolling out a total of three variants of the Saga, namely Standard, Executive and Premium. All variants of the new Saga will roll on 14-inch wheels. Boot space, according to the source, is measured at 430-litres, an increase of 17-litres over its predecessor.
Moving inside, all variants of the Saga will get fabric upholstery, with a black single tone interior. We gathered that the Saga’s fit and finish will be an improvement over the current model’s, which is definitely an added bonus. Apart from that, earlier leaked photos also indicated that at least one variant of the Saga will feature a reverse camera, likely on the range-topping Premium trim.
A total of six colours will be made available, with Flourite Grey and Topaz Blue being the new additions, on top of Genetic Silver, Solid White, Fire Red and Quartz Black. The starting price of the Saga 1.3 Standard with a manual transmission is said to be at RM32,888, moving all the way to RM46,338 for the Saga Premium.
