Honda has announced its success as the leader in Thailand’s passenger car market with top-ranking sales for the first half of the year, with 53,952 units sold, including the Honda CR-V, HR-V, and BR-V, from January to June, 2016.
In the passenger car market, total sales were 152,619 units including SUVs (which are subject to the same tax rates as passenger cars), with Honda’s market share representing 35.4% of the total sales.
In the overall automobile market, sales totaled 366,373 units in the first half of the year, a decrease of 0.7% compared to 369,109 units in 2015. In the passenger car market, sales decreased 12% compared to 2015, at 173,757 units. In spite of a sluggish market, the company maintained sales at the same level as last year, at 54,793 units.
Honda has also increased its market share from 31.5% in 2015 to 35.4% in 2016. This success is due to new model launches, including the BR-V, Accord, and particularly the latest Civic. Customers have booked over 15,000 units within four months following its launch, and Honda has already delivered more than 10,000 units to customers.
Mr. Pitak Pruittisarikorn, Chief Operating Officer of Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said, “Amid the slow economy and automobile market at large, Honda has introduced many new models to deliver maximum satisfaction to our customers. Our three new models have uplifted the Thai automobile market during the first six months of 2016. For the second half of the year, Honda will introduce the new Accord Hybrid model at the end of July. It will feature the latest advanced hybrid technology from Honda.”
