Local automaker, Perodua announced that it is maintaining its sales target of 216,000 for 2016 by more than doubling its sales to 118,600 in the second half of the year from 97,000 units achieved in the first 6 months so far.

This increase comes despite the reduced total industry volume (TIV) projected by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) to 580,000 vehicles from 650,00 vehicles earlier in the year due to volatility of global economy and the soft consumer sentiment in the first six months of the year.

The recently launched Perodua Bezza has been successful as the company recorded bookings averaged 1,000 cars per day since it was open for booking on 16th July. Currently, Perodua aims to meet the demand with its existing vehicle stock.

“We began mass production of Perodua Bezza since June and have a ready stock of 7,000 units as of 21st July. We expect to have 9,000 units ready for delivery nationwide,” said Perodua President & CEO, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh during today’s H1 sales presentation.

Perodua also announced that the booking for the all-new Perodua Bezza has reached 10,115 units as of 26 July 2016 morning and 500 units of the Bezza have been delivered to customers since it was launched on 21st July 2016. According to Aminar, although the Perodua Bezza is developed to meet global standards, Perodua currently has no plans to export it to other markets.

“We will do our best to ensure that delivery is made in a timely manner as to ensure customer’ satisfaction. This is also in-line with our goal to further improve both our Sales Satisfaction Index and Customers Satisfaction Index standing,” Aminar added.

In January 2016, Perodua announced its target sales for the year, which includes 905 points for its Sales Satisfaction Index, 870 points for its Customer Satisfaction Index.

In terms of its after sales, the company saw one million vehicles patronising its 186 service centres nationwide, an increase of 5% from 965,000 vehicles in the same period last year.

Intake revenue has also increase to RM330 million in the first 6 months of 2016, up 13% from RM293 million in the same period last year.

Parts sales (including accessories) for the first half of 2016 also improved by 5% to RM126 million from RM120 million in the same period.

Production, however, saw a decrease by 14% to 100,300 units from 116,400 units in the first half of last year.

“Despite the expected increase in sales for the second half, we maintain our production forecast of 216,000 vehicles for the year, having already planned our production expectations of the year, which includes the Perodua Bezza,” Aminar said.

Before ending his speech, Aminar urges the general public to visit any of its 181 sales showroom throughout the country to test drive and experience the newly-launched Perodua Bezza first hand.
