Toyota Indonesia is set to debut a new MPV, called the Calya. This new seven-seater utilizes the Toyota Agya platform, and is positioned below the Avanza as a people mover.
Slated to hit Indonesian dealerships in August, the Toyota Calya has been detailed inside and out, giving us a clearer look at this low cost MPV.
Up front, this MPV features Toyota’s new design language, with a pair of halogen headlights connected by a large chrome strip. The chrome surrounds plus the chrome strip on the front foglights are unique to the Calya G spec. Moving to the rear, the Calya bears some resemblance to the recently-launched Toyota Innova, though the centre two tail light extensions are likely dummies. All variants of the Toyota Calya get reverse sensor.
Inside the Calya is a dual-tone dashboard, with black and beige used extensively. According to the specification sheet from Autonetzmag, all Calya variants get an Multi Info Display (MID) plus Eco Indicator. While both variant sports double-DIN audio systems, the G spec Calya gets Bluetooth and four speakers, on top of the E spec’s CD player, USB and AUX connectivity. Being a low cost MPV, steering controls aren’t included.
Other highlights include one touch tumble rear seats, rear air vents, 60:40 split folding second row seats plus a decent rear boot space. Seen on Ototainment, even with the third row seats up, the Calya can swallow three gallons of water plus a small bag. Powered windows are available on all Calya variants too.
Safety is backed by dual SRS airbags up front, ABS and ISOFIX child seat mounts. In addition to that, the Calya gets three-point seat belts all round, including the third row seats. The base Calya E MT does not get ABS.
Powering the Toyota Calya is a 1.2-litre 3NR-VE four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 88 PS at 6,000 rpm and 108 Nm at 4,200 rpm. Indonesian buyers can choose between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic.
