Set to debut in Japan in August, leaked photos of the fifth-generation Nissan Serena have surfaced online.
Up front, the new Nissan Serena features a significantly sharper front end than its predecessor, featuring a massive chrome laden front grille with three horizontal slats. The front bumper is also more angular than the outgoing mode, and flanking the new grille are equally new headlights with projectors.
Moving to the rear, Nissan has redesigned the MPV’s tail light cluster, giving the Serena a pair of smaller profile tail lights. The outgoing model has clear vertical tail lights. Seen on the 2WD variant here is a chrome piece that connects the tail lights, and another chrome piece with the SERENA wording. The rear bumper gets the same angular treatment as the front end.
Moving inside, the 2016 Serena has a familiar sight, as the dashboard design is largely similar to the outgoing model. Nissan has updated the position of the centre air vents, which now sits on the sides of the infotainment system, as opposed to above the infotainment system in the outgoing model. The gear lever is centrally-located, similar to its predecessor. Apart from that, the meter cluster features a digital display. Another update is the Around View Monitor, seen on the far left of the meter cluster. This allows the driver to navigate the MPV around tight spots with ease.
Powertrain details are unknown as yet, though we expect to see Nissan carrying over its proven 2.0-litre MR20DE four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to the company’s Xtronic CVT.
