Mercedes-AMG’s latest beast, the AMG GT R has leaked online ahead of its debut. The hotter AMG GT variant is decked in a shade of green called AMG Green Hell Magno, and will make a public appearance at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Driving the rear wheels is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that is shared with the AMG GT and GT S, only this time it gets 577 bhp. Torque figures are unknown as yet, though some speculate that the AMG GT R could boast almost 700 Nm of twisting power. To cope with the extra grunt, Mercedes-AMG has fitted a revised seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Elsewhere, the meaner AMG GT R will benefit from more aero kit, including wider tyres, a larger rear wing, larger front air intakes and a massive rear diffuser. With all these combined, the Mercedes-AMG GT R can hit 100 km/h from a deadstop in just 3.6 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the GT S. Top speed is a mouth-watering 318 km/h.
When the Mercedes-AMG GT R launches officially, expect the new supercar from Stuttgart to shatter the front engine, rear wheel drive record at the Nurburgring.
We certainly can’t wait for the official debut, that’s for sure.
