I can’t believe our neighbours down south is getting the BMW X5 M50d. Not that I can afford one anyway but just the ability to hear that machine roar to life is probably one of the things I would love to hear some day. Its evident that because Singapore has Euro 4 diesel, the X5 M50d can run nicely over there, then again they don’t have that much room to fully unleash that monster.

Yes, that is right. BMW Asia has introduced the new BMW X5 M50d which comes under the BMW M Performance Automobiles range, in Singapore. It is powered by the world’s most powerful in-line six-cylinder 3.0-litre diesel engine that can generate a maximum power output of 381 hp and an impressive maximum torque of 740 Nm at 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. Just a comparison, a standard 2.0 litre diesel powering the 320d and 520d here in Malaysia only produces 184 hp and 380 Nm of torque.

“The BMW M Performance Automobiles range has always held a special place in our hearts since our introduction of the first M535i in 1980. This concept enjoyed sustained success over many years, even after the high-performance BMW M5 sports car was unveiled in 1985. The success of the BMW M Performance Automobiles is set to be continued via the new BMW X5 M50d in a fresh and contemporary manner,” said Mr Sethipong Anutarasoti, Corporate Affairs Director of BMW Group Asia.

With a maximum power output of 381 hp, a peak torque of 740 Nm between 2,000 to 3,000 rpm, and the ability to complete the century sprint in just 5.3 seconds (+0.1 second improvement, vs. its predecessor), the engine developed for the new BMW X5 M50d brings its level of performance to a stage that is unmatched by other diesel-powered car in its segment.

Outstanding powertrain and chassis technology in combination with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive allow the BMW X5 M50d to display extraordinary poise and assurance. Thanks to the most powerful diesel engine in the BMW engine range, allied to the optimised power transfer, handling properties and aerodynamic balance for which BMW M cars are renowned, the BMW X5 M50d set new standards in their respective classes in terms of sportiness, conceptual harmony and efficiency.

Further, the BMW X5 M50d’s average fuel consumption and CO2 emissions level have both been improved against its predecessor model, and are now at 6.7 litres/100 km (+11.0% improvement, as per average EU test cycle) and CO2 emissions of 177 g/km (+11.0% improvement, as per average EU test cycle), respectively.

The BMW X5 M50d comes standard with Adaptive M suspension, which includes Sport-tuned suspension settings with a specifically-tuned Dynamic Damper Control system, as well as automatic self-leveling air suspension at the rear.

“The new BMW X5 M50d has greatly benefited from the combined experience of the engineers of BMW M, whose expertise has ensured precision tuning between the drive, suspension and steering. As a result, drivers will be able to enjoy precise, sporty handling for an exceptionally intense driving experience,” added Mr Anutarasoti.

The highly exclusive interior and exterior details of the new BMW X5 M50d are guaranteed to turn heads, such as the special air intakes in the front apron and exterior mirror caps in Ferric Grey metallic as part of the M aerodynamics package. These are perfectly completed by the standard M design 20” light alloy wheels.

The new BMW X5 M50d is available either as a 5-seater or a 7-seater configuration. The 5-seater configuration comes standard with Alcantara-leather combination upholstery and Dynamic adaptive suspension package, whereas the 7-seater configuration comes standard with Leather Dakota combination upholstery and Adaptive M Suspension.

The new BMW X5 M50d offers an extensive list of standard specification including; BMW Head-up display, Adaptive LED highlights, Soft-close function for doors, Panorama glass-roof, Surround View, Cruise control with braking function, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, four-zone automatic climate control system and a Bluetooth hands-free system. The standard-fitted iDrive operating system – in conjunction with the standard Navigation system Professional – comes with an iDrive Touch Controller, whose touch-sensitive surface allows the use of characters to programme a destination into the navigation system.

The new BMW X5 M50d is available for viewing at the Munich Automobiles showroom.
