While the commercial for the Proton Persona may be completed, it appears that engineers are still working round the clock testing the new sedan.
Thanks to our friends over at Funtasticko, a pair of the 2016 Persona was caught in the vicinity of Behrang 2020, with full camouflage.
From what we gathered, the 2016 Proton Persona will get its power from the company’s 1.6-litre Campro VVT engine, mated to either a CVT or five-speed manual. The new Jatco CVT is only expected to arrive once Proton’s new GDI engines are ready. The choice to limit the Persona to just one engine is to separate it from the upcoming Saga, which will be powered exclusively with a smaller 1.3-litre Campro VVT engine.
Elsewhere, the upcoming Persona will also be available with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Hold Assist and possibly even up to six airbags. If the current Iriz is used as a benchmark, it is possible that all variants of the Persona will receive ESC and ABS, while the minimum airbag count is two.
Proton has not said when the new Persona will be launched officially, but we understood that the national company is looking to debut the 2016 Perdana first, before launching the smaller models.
