Local bike fans received yet another boost recently when Kawasaki Motors Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (KMMSB) launched the new Z250 Streetfighter.
Boasting aggressive ‘street-tuned’ looks akin to its larger sibling the also recently launched Z800, the new Z250 features that trendy “mass-forward, minimalist-tail” design that’s popular with modern-day sportbike designs. The Z250 shares the same under-pinnings as its stablemate the Ninja 250, but with a totally different design, that would suit those seeking a more relaxed, upright riding style.
In terms of physical size, despite being less ‘clothed’ than the Ninja 250, the Z250 is actually slightly wider and taller, however both bikes share the exact same length of 2010mm. As expected the Z250 is lighter than its stablemate too, tipping the scales at a mere 168kg (the Ninja 250 is 172kg) so expect a slightly better power-to-weight ratio.
While we have not tested the bike yet, handling wise the Z250 may prove more agile than the Ninja too, thanks to a sharper rake angle of 26-deg, versus 27-deg, and a 11mm shorter trail. With a 1-year / 10,000km warranty and priced at RM21,589 (msrp) the new Z250 is sure to appeal to all those seeking a good commuter as well as occasional Sunday bike.
